Colin Mehmel, FeldenkraisĀ®

Colin Mehmel is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner™ and professional clarinettist who currently teaches at the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Art, the University of Manitoba Preparatory Studies program and the Rady Jewish Centre. In addition to his work as a Feldenkrais® practitioner and clarinet teacher, Colin has performed with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival, Brandon University's ClarinetFest, and the Winnipeg Wind Ensemble, where he serves as Principal clarinet. He has also been a featured soloist with the Mennonite Community Orchestra.

After completing a Masters degree in Music Performance at Michigan State University, Colin completed his Feldenkrais® teacher training at the Institute for the Study of Somatic Education in Chicago, Illinois, with principal instructors Paul Rubin and Julie Casson Rubin.

Colin’s interest in the Feldenkrais Method™ began after he sustained a shoulder injury which, in addition to being very painful, caused many difficulties affecting his clarinet playing. After observing how quickly he had learned and improved through Feldenkrais lessons, Colin decided to become a Feldenkrais practitioner himself. Now he uses his knowledge of the Feldenkrais Method and musicianship to help his students learn quickly, and to discover how movement can be a foundation for learning and achievement.
